Summerfield at Lakewood Ranch is probably where residents are who won’t hesitate to exaggerate a bit and say that theirs is a neighborhood where the grass grows greener and the sun shines brighter. This bit of a hyperbole is of course understandable.
This community, after all, is one of the seven Lakewood Ranch villages developed close to an abundance of acres of nature parks, preserves, and greenways. Summerfield itself has a 15-acre community park ideal for outdoor activities that reflect the family-oriented character of this village. In this park, there is a picnic pavilion complete with charcoal grills. In addition, there are open playgrounds also ideal for family picnics. Likewise within the Summerfield Community Park’s confines are lighted tennis courts and baseball fields.
For bigger community gatherings, there is the 150-acre Lakewood Ranch District Park. At this venue, various sports activities are held all year round. Among these are football, soccer, tennis, basketball, and racquetball.
For less competitive but equally satisfying sports and recreational activities, Summerfield too has several offerings. This community has long stretches of pristine nature trails ideal for walking and running. One popular choice is the Heron’s Nest Nature Trail that links the village to the 12-acre Lake Heron and the 27-acre Lake Summerfield that are both havens for boating and fishing.
For those who want to venture out even farther, there’s the Braden River Nature Park and Trail System. From this pathway, access can be gained to Trophy Lake where bass fishing attracts the fishermen among residents. Also within the area is Otter Lake which, combined with the surrounding nature preserves, virtually creates Lakewood Ranch as a virtual state park environment.
This affinity with nature at Summerfield is, of course, deeply ingrained in the residences offered at its five neighborhoods.
