It’s truly a sight to behold, the Waterlefe Golf and River Club, a rare combination of fabulous riverside homes and a golf course in Bradenton, Florida. This community was deftly developed from more than 630 acres of a natural waterside property into a complex brimming with luxurious amenities and magnificent landscapes.
Most of the social activities of the community happen at the River Club. Elegant and luxurious dining facilities are among the main features of its clubhouse with a fabulous architectural design accented by a screened terrace. Its diners are afforded with the panoramic view of the nearby Manatee River and the club’s crystal clear pool. The tropical ambience to the place is enhanced by a tiki bar and three separate gazebos on the grounds which also features a look-out tower.
The food menu list at the River Club’s dining room is a collection of casual and meticulously prepared culinary delights that can meet a gourmet or gourmand’s taste. A private dining room is likewise open for reservations. More club amenities are provided at a modern fitness center and at The Pointe, an area suited for family gatherings. A dining alternative is provided at the Grille Room located at the clubhouse built separately for the Golf Club.
These privileges can be had at reasonable membership fees that approximate those charged by the other country clubs in the area. Currently, the $10,000 club initiation fee has been waived.
Waterlefe Golf Course
The Waterlefe golf course is an 18-hole layout designed by Ted McAnlis. He masterfully transformed this pristine stretch of property into a par-72 course that was given a 4.5-star rating (out of a perfect five) by the Golf Digest magazine.
There are wonderful views at each turn of the five sets of tees that he incorporated into the layout to accommodate players of varying skills. The longest course challenge is presented by the Bobcat tees that stretch all of 6,906 yards. The course rating here is at 73.8 and the slope rating is at 141. The shortest play is the 4,700-yard route of the Otter tees which has a 68.7 course rating and a 116 slope rating. Many qualifying tournaments for the US Open have been held at these Waterlefe golf links.
For practice games, an entertaining aqua driving range serves as a support golf facility at Waterlefe. Floating golf balls are used here to take advantage of the Golf Club’s watery environment. Adjunct amenities are provided by a putting green and a friendly pro shop.
Residents of the Waterlefe community are privileged to use the course even without a golf club membership. Corporate or charity golf outings can be held in this semi-private golf course. Its professional staff can competently organize such events, even as up to 144 players are participating.
